Hästens Hosts “Breakfast in Bed” – A Wellness Morning on the Power of Quality Sleep

In collaboration with In The Pink Events (partners of Times of Malta) and FormHästens Malta hosted an exclusive wellness morning at the Grand Ballroom of The Phoenicia Malta. The event, titled Breakfast in Bed, brought together medical and wellness experts to explore the transformative role of sleep in mental, physical, and emotional health.

The event opened with a welcome from Julian, Hästens Malta Brand Manager. Also in attendance was Domenico CapobiancoHästens Country Manager for Malta, who supported the event and its message promoting sleep as a pillar of wellbeing.

The morning began with a guided meditation by Dr. Bogdan Matei, a respected psychiatrist and master trainer known for his interdisciplinary approach to transformation and personal growth. His keynote talk unpacked the deep psychological and neurological links between sleep, emotional regulation, and cognitive performance. Through his integration of neuroscience, linguistics, and psychology, Dr. Matei works across both clinical and corporate settings to help individuals awaken their full potential.

He then led a dynamic fireside chat and expert panel, featuring:

  • Dr. Alexander Borg, Consultant Cardiologist at Mater Dei Hospital, and a pioneer in advanced cardiovascular imaging including MRI, CT, and 3D echo. Dr. Borg discussed how chronic sleep deprivation can be observed through diagnostic technologies and why sleep matters deeply for long-term heart health. He is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Malta and a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology.
  • Prof. Godfrey Grech, Professor of Oncology at the University of Malta, scientific advisor at Livel Health Hub, and Ambassador for the European Lifestyle Medicine Organisation. Prof. Grech offered insights into how poor sleep fuels systemic inflammation, disrupts microbiome health, and increases cancer risk—highlighting the potential of lifestyle medicine in disease prevention.

Panel Discussion Highlights Included:

  • The long-term effects of poor sleep on cardiovascular and metabolic health
  • How disrupted sleep contributes to inflammation and disease
  • The role of circadian rhythms and gut balance in prevention
  • Defining “restorative sleep” from both cardiological and oncological perspectives
  • How sleep supports immunity, mental health, and overall resilience
  • The need for greater sleep education in clinical training and public awareness
  • Reframing sleep as an active, healing process vital to peak performance

One guest from the audience was invited on stage to undergo a professional bed test — a specialised process used to determine the ideal bed tension based on an individual’s weight, height, and body structure. By assessing spinal alignment and the level of sink in the topper, the test helps identify the perfect Hästens bed configuration for optimal comfort and support.

Attendees left inspired by the multi-disciplinary conversation that connected the dots between science, lifestyle, and wellbeing. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many calling for more initiatives like this to continue raising awareness on the importance of sleep.

This event marks the beginning of a sleep wellness movement by Hästens Malta and Form—aimed at empowering the public and the healthcare community to recognise sleep as a powerful, preventative force in everyday life.
