D.153.1 armchair

Designed in 1953 for Gio Ponti’s home, the D.153.1 armchair, re-edited by Molteni&C, has a brass structure and comes in white-blue leather or 1934 “Punteggiato” fabric, which updates velvet-weaving with modern patterns.

Ponti used the D.153.1 (Distex) in several of his major interior projects including the Alitalia office in New York and his own home on via Dezza 49. A success in both Italy and America, the Distex lounge is an icon of Ponti’s work in the 1950s.

Hotel Parco dei Principi, Sorrento

The Hotel dei Parco Principi is situated on a cliff with stunning views of the Gulf of Naples, surrounded by a lush tropical garden filled with rare and exotic palm species. Renowned Italian architect and furniture designer, Giovanni “Gio” Ponti, created the hotel in the early 1960s on the grounds of a 19th century English Gothic castle. Ponti’s original furnishings, draped in their original upholstery, can be found throughout the hotel and its 96 rooms. The blue and white color palette pays homage to the Amalfi Coast, with each surface reflecting a different shade of blue reminiscent of the nearby ocean.
