In every bedroom, there’s a chair. Not just any chair, but the one piled with clothes that aren’t quite clean, yet not dirty enough to be washed—a universal “clothes chair.” Now, thanks to a visionary project by Whirlpool and Natuzzi, designed by Fabio Novembre, this everyday piece of furniture has transformed from a silent bystander into a sustainable design statement.
Introducing the Wash Less Project, a stunning armchair that doubles as a practical valet stand. Its organic, rounded shapes are inspired by the common bedroom chair, offering a functional solution for that ever-growing pile of “in-between” clothes. But it’s not just about aesthetics—it’s a call to action to rethink our laundry habits.
Washing less is not only better for the environment but also saves energy, water, and extends the life of your clothing. With this design, Novembre seeks to encourage a natural flow between wearing, airing, re-wearing, and washing, reducing unnecessary laundry cycles. The chair’s steel frame is upholstered in Ecoplen, a sustainable fabric made from recycled PET bottles, complete with an antibacterial treatment.
Fabio Novembre explains the project’s deeper meaning: “In Italian, abito (clothing) and abitare (to live) both stem from the Latin habeo—to have. This linguistic connection invites reflection on our relationship with possessions and the planet. The Wash Less chair embodies sustainability, reminding us daily to save resources and care for the environment.
Starting October 7, the Wash Less chair is available on Whirlpool Italia’s e-commerce platform and in Natuzzi Italia stores. It’s more than just furniture; it’s a statement about sustainable living and conscious consumption.
